Tora! Tora! Tora!

Sterling historical drama with enough money spent on it to make it convincing and a good candidate for the 2001 of war movies.

Eschewing big-star names (to keep down costs), characterization and love interest, this makes a good fist of establishing why the attack on Pearl Harbor took place at all. However, the lack of unifying reasons for the machinations of global power-politics makes this aspect of the movie less telling than it could otherwise have been.
