Rather too complicated and implausible a thriller for its own good, with a mediocre love story at its core that leaves no full opportunity to grasp the real meaning of this couple’s love for each other.
Like many modern thrillers, there is an implicit recognition that the audience is jaded with this sort of stuff, so that they have to become as labyrinthine as possible in order to fool said audience. However, this has the inherent danger (like the schizophrenic) of losing contact with psychological reality - something this movie teeters on the edge of.
However, what it lacks in depth it makes up for in pace, surprises and in being still rather compelling. This is because the performances are excellent, from some of the best French actors working today; enmeshing us in the puzzling conspiracy almost from the word go.
