Steven Spielberg is Now Crap
Probably the silliest epic ever made based solely on the desire of the US War Department to send a mother a telegram saying one of her offspring is still alive rather than the usual condolences on their loss.
Politically, the film uncritically posits the fallacy of World War 2 as The Good War against tyranny, when it was actually a combat between opposing tyrannies. (Now that would be a good theme for a future movie.)
Given Hollywood’s lack of originality and imagination in recent years, it was inevitable that movies like this are now the norm. What they lack in thematic content, plotting and story they compensate for with grim realism and tail-wagging-the-dog special effects - as if a genuinely emotionally involving drama could be fabricated from the mere means of storytelling alone, rather than from any of the rational desires of sensible people to achieve possible goals.
