Postman Always Rings Twice-like story of lust with the twist that the two lovers are vampires. Yet there is little new here in relation to this rather tired horror sub-genre as there was in both Near Dark and Let the Right One In.
The plotting is uneven, the characters shallow and the film too long. There is much bloodletting and sexual passion - as there should be - but few chills. To counteract this, however, there is a morbid sense-of-humor. But despite the references to viral infections and the difficulty of telling the difference between martyrdom and suicide there is no sensible allegory or analogy to anything recognizable that actually happens in real life. This failing makes what we watch ultimately an example of the tail-wagging-the-dog of special effects while the poor audience waits in vain for an enlivening story or theme to emerge that one can get ones teeth into.
