He Got Game

(1998)

RATING:100%
FORMAT:DVD

Despite the contrived plotting, this is an excellent film about the child being the father of the man.

A father tries to coach his son in the ways of the world when the latter discovers a talent that others will try to leech off him for. Yet this paternal influence is compromised by the fact that the father killed a woman dear to them both: Their wife and mother.

Using basketball as a metaphor for the conflict between the two leads is a skillful and clever way to dramatize the antagonisms of a convicted felon and his son. Although too long, this is still highly-enjoyable fare and is probably the director Spike LEE’s best movie.

Führerprinzip:

One leader, one people, signifies one master and millions of slaves… There is no organ of conciliation or mediation interposed between the leader and the people, nothing in fact but the apparatus - in other words, the party - which is the emanation of the leader and the tool of his will to oppress. In this way the first and sole principle of this degraded form of mysticism is born, the Führerprinzip, which restores idolatry and a debased deity to the world of nihilism.
