misery loves company
White self-hatred and immaturity:
- One-upmanship in the absence of any real belief in equality;
- the belief that time heals all wounds to avoid having to engage in the necessary work of solving problems;
- psycho-analyzing each other in place of emotional commitment;
- confusing friendship with lust in the absence of friends of friends and lovers;
- confusing giving with sharing in the hope that giving will suffice;
- fear of introspection because of the emotional turmoil lurking inside;
- confusing the personal (sharing) with the political (giving) - especially as regards diet, as if veganism solves the world’s problems;
- trying to quantify qualities to compensate for their lack;
- emotional self-indulgence as a vain attempt to evade emotional problems;
- phobias about anyone who is not exactly like them;
- the desire to get away periodically from a lifestyle they embrace because they lack the imagination to live otherwise;
- using strong language as a substitute for suppressed emotions
- talking about emotions rather than experiencing them;
- emotional dishonesty in the hope of that others will not notice how unhappy you are and that negative emotions will disappear;
- paranoia in the face of ignorance of self and others;;
- manic-depression in the face of the realization happiness is impossible in the presence of manic-depression and feeling that there is nowhere to go in a culture that demands such self-sacrifice;
- schizophrenia in the absence of a valid connection between one’s thoughts and emotions.
Neurotics like Woody Allen and Sigmund Freud would love this emotional shocker because it is totally lacking in justified characterization or valid solutions to the problems presented. Is it any surprise that Whites have the highest divorce rates in the world and can only talk about how unhappy they are? For a film that damns small-talk, this movie is very small.
