Neither fish nor foul, in generic terms, this movie lacks insight into the mental condition depicted or its causes. Instead, it opts for a Sixth Sense style depiction of the world apparently in the third-person that turns out to be largely in the first. The idea of a man receiving telephone calls from himself is great for suspense and intrigue, but not good for character development since any talk of character would reveal what is really going on. A theme is hard to elucidate here because there isn’t one.
This is all a great pity because the performances - for a Bollywood movie - are realistic and very much grounded in the everyday reality of lived experience - especially, sexual relations. The emotional chemistry between the leads (Deepika PADUKONE & Farhan AKHTAR) is palpable and enjoyable so that their developing romance keeps the film afloat nicely. Yet this is not much more than an excuse for the screenwriter to opine that women are often attracted to bad boys because nice guys seem too safe; while complaining about the bad boys they are attracted to being unreliable. This makes the characterization a little too thin to sustain the length of this romantic-thriller.
