This is certainly not Nick PARK nor is it Tim BURTON and one wonders why Wes ANDERSON decided to make an animation since he has little idea how they should work.
The humor is weak; that is, executed in a US comedy style that relies on the way one speaks rather than actually saying anything particularly funny. This is unidiomatic given that the movie is geographically located in the UK with the animals voiced by Yanks; the humans by Brits. The US actors have some difficulty personifying their roles - with the notable exception of Willem DAFOE as a knife-wielding rat; exemplifying the commercial tendency of these cartoons to employ well-known actors over-and-above better voice performers - to the detriment of character development. George CLOONEY is as bland and as unprojecting an actor as one can imagine while Meryl STREEP is too subtle (& emotionally-repressed) an actress to make her part stand out from all the others.
In this repetitively-plotted reminder of the better Belstone Fox, Anderson shows what a formalistic shadow of himself he has become.
