Like Thief, this is a tale of the difficulty of leaving ones birth circumstances behind. Unlike that film, however, there is a far greater chance for redemption here despite the fact that these characters are affectively trapped in their life more than they would ever be in prison.
Clearly Gone Baby Gone was not a fluke and, although this is not as thematically-profound as that earlier work, Ben AFFLECK shows what a great director he is, particularly of character-driven thrillers. However, like Clint Eastwood, his acting is not great but he knows a good story when he sees one and tells it right without wasting too much time wondering the audience might want - only what is right for the story. He also ensures he casts the best talent available - especially the wonderful Rebecca HALL.
Way above average crime movie that is a love affair with Boston, a tale of self-knowledge inspired by sexual love, with more than a touch of Out of Sight.
