Carrière de Suzanne
[Suzanne’s Career]
(1963)

RATING: 60%

An early Eric ROHMER movie that demonstrate technical incompetence and dramaturgical triviality. Yet, it also reveals a creative mind struggling to find worthwhile subject matter other than the usual male-undergraduate obsession with girls.

The basic problem with this film is that the filmmaker confuses morality with courtesy. This soon leaves the audience in a moral void wondering just exactly moral means and/or what does the director think it means. In fact, none of the Moral Tales ever really answers this question nor tell particularly moral tales.
