Amor Vincit Omnia?

Silly (rather than hilariously-funny) movie about penance and personal redemption since it makes little sense and has little to say about the human condition. The characterization is flat and the perfunctory plotting merely an excuse to set the actors against exotic backdrops. It is redeemed by some amusing action set-pieces with the accent on humor.

The basic premise is that criminals can be reformed by love as opposed to the rather more realistic idea that they should be vigorously punished – with no attempt made to rehabilitate them. Both are methods designed to eliminate crime altogether that cannot possibly work because they fail to take account of the root fact of human volition. This is why the film has nowhere to go plot-wise as the theme dies the death of a thousand cuts over its running length of two and a half hours.
